An Bíobla Naofa 1981

Níl míle bliain i d’fhianaise ach mar an lá a d’imigh tharainn inné, nó mar a bheadh faire na hoíche.

Salm 90:4

Ná déanaigí dearmad den phointe seo, a chairde cléibh, gur cuma aon lá amháin leis an Tiarna nó míle bliain, agus míle bliain nó aon lá amháin.

2 Peadar 3:8

Salm 90 (An Bíobla Naofa 1981)

1 Achainí Mhaois, giolla Dé.
A Thiarna, is tú ba thearmann dúinn,
ár ndídean ó ghlúin go glúin.
2 Ó thosach sular saolaíodh na sléibhte,
sular rugadh an talamh agus an chruinne,
is tú Dia gan tús gan deireadh.
3 Déanann tú deannach arís den duine
á rá: “Ar ais libh, a Ádhamhchlann.”
4 Óir níl míle bliain i d’fhianaise
ach mar an lá a d’imigh tharainn inné,
nó mar a bheadh faire na hoíche.
5 Sciobann tú chun siúil iad amhail aisling,
nó mar fhéar úrghlas na maidine.
6 Eascraíonn sé ar maidin agus bláthaíonn sé
baintear é agus feonn sé um thráthnóna.
7 Táimid dár gcnaí go dearfa le d’fhearg;
scanraítear sinn le dásacht do dhíbheirge.

2 Peadar 3 (An Bíobla Naofa 1981)

5 Déanann siad dearmad d’aon ghnó de seo, go raibh na spéartha ann anallód, agus gur cumadh an domhan as an uisce agus tríd an uisce le briathar Dé;
6 agus tríothu gur scriosadh an domhan mar a bhí, óir bádh é le huisce.
7 Na spéartha agus an domhan atá anois ann, tá siad á gcaomhnú don tine, tríd an mbriathar céanna, agus á gcumhdach i gcomhair lá breithiúnais agus scriosta na n-éagráifeach.
8 Ach ná déanaigí dearmad den phointe seo, a chairde cléibh, gur cuma aon lá amháin leis an Tiarna nó míle bliain, agus míle bliain nó aon lá amháin.
9 Ní dhéanann an Tiarna moill lena ghealltanas, mar a thuigtear moill do dhaoine áirithe, ach tá sé foighneach libh mar nach mian leis go gcaillfí aon dream ach go dtiocfadh cách chun aithrí.
10 Tiocfaidh lá an Tiarna mar ghadaí, agus scriosfar na spéartha de ruathar toirní; déanfar na dúile a mhilleadh le tine, agus loscfar an domhan agus a bhfuil d’oibreacha ann.
11 Ó tharla go bhfuil gach ní le scriosadh ar an gcuma sin, cén sórt daoine ar cheart daoibh a bheith maidir le hiompar naofa agus le cráifeacht,

A thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.

Psalm 90:4

Do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

2 Peter 3:8

Salm 90 (English Standard Version)

1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place
in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3 You return man to dust
and say, “Return, O children of man!”
4 For a thousand years in your sight
are but as yesterday when it is past,
or as a watch in the night.
5 You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream,
like grass that is renewed in the morning:
6 in the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
in the evening it fades and withers.
7 For we are brought to an end by your anger;
by your wrath we are dismayed.

2 Peadar 3 (English Standard Version)

5 For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God,
6 and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished.
7 But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,
